With a General Election scheduled for December 12th 2019, we’re very pleased to announce that your local Labour Parliamentary Candidate is Cliff Waterman.
We shall be putting out our local campaign promises shortly, but before then this is what Cliff had to say for himself:
“I am a socialist and believe that working together we can achieve far more than as isolated individuals. I am a democrat and believe that democratic decisions should be respected, even when they are uncomfortable.
I have lived in Suffolk for 34 years, mostly in Bury St Edmunds and my personal life has shaped my socialism. I was brought up in a working-class family, my father being a carpenter and my mother a seamstress, where there were strong values of hard work, respect and decency. I am proud to have been the first member of my family to go to university and gain a degree (as well as a professional qualification and a Master’s degree). My own children have grown up to share these values, and I now have grandchildren as well, which gives me an insight into the problems facing young people today.
I strongly support the Labour Party as the party of democratic socialism. I fully support our elected leader, and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure we can form a truly transformational government. I believe we can make real progress in the Bury St Edmunds constituency; indeed, I think that we have the potential to beat the incumbent Tory member and with everyone’s support, we can do our best to achieve this.”
